About Us

Karootza: For those who don't settle. For nomads.

Karootza is a collaborative online lifestyle magazine, including sections on food, travel, wellness and meaningful livelihood. It will inspire you to make changes in the way you eat, live and work, for optimal health and happiness. It is optimistic, creative, spontaneous, authentic, smart, funny, and curious, like you.

Don't settle in your career, travel the world, explore your dreams and develop your potential. Create your most meaningful livelihood, savor healthy creative meals, dance through life, and enjoy spontaneous adventures in each moment.

Karootza is a playful spelling of căruța (prounounced ka-root-za), a horse drawn carriage, still a vital means of transportation for people in many villages in Romania. I was given a ride in a căruța in a small village called Hărpășești.

I was inspired by the căruța carrying families to market, căruțas piled high with towers of hay, even căruțas driven wildly by furious and free young children. Sometimes I saw a baby horse running beside her mother, who was leading the căruța. The căruța is the vehicle for motion, strong, authentic, breaking the ground beneath its wheels. It also represents freedom and exploration, taking you on an open air journey, exposing your true, sometimes funny, self.
